Computer and Software Engineering

Graduates of the specialization gain a broad perspective for career opportunities in both software and hardware domains related to modern information technologies. Their training combines a solid education in computer science with an additional emphasis on the physical and architectural foundations of modern computer system design.During their studies, students master fundamental data structures and software strategies, their application programming interfaces, as well as core and specialized knowledge necessary for the analysis, design, construction, and evaluation of application or system software and software-hardware architectures.

Graduates of the "Computer and Software Engineering" specialization acquire professional competencies for:

Applying mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in modeling and designing computer-based systems;
Applying modern information technologies in solving current economic and engineering-technical tasks;
Designing, implementing, using, and evaluating modern computer systems, contemporary application products, or system software with a wide variety of application areas;
Analyzing software or hardware problems and identifying computer requirements suitable for their resolution;
Understanding professional, ethical, legal, and social issues and responsibilities in the field of modern computer technologies, as well as issues related to cybersecurity.

At the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy - Sliven, part of the Technical University of Sofia, applications are submitted with:

a state final exam in Bulgarian language and literature, and/or
a state final exam in mathematics, and/or
a state final exam in physics, and/or
a mathematics test (preliminary or regular).

Successful professional activity requires acquiring theoretical knowledge and understanding of basic facts, concepts, terms, and theories in the field of computer and software systems and technologies, as well as skills in applying this knowledge to design, program, maintain, develop, adapt, and localize computer and information systems. Students receive high professional training, rich language culture, as well as knowledge in the fields of economics, management, and marketing.

General theoretical training is carried out during the first two years through the study of mandatory courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, general technical disciplines, foreign languages, etc.

Specialized training includes the study of mandatory academic courses in various areas of computer and information technologies, including synthesis and analysis of algorithms, programming languages, programming environments, operating systems, computer architectures, computer peripherals, microprocessor technology, analysis and synthesis of logic circuits, digital circuit design, high-performance computer systems, parallel programming, mobile device programming, computer networks, computer graphics.

Specialized training provides for the study of elective academic courses in three modules: computer engineering, software systems, information technologies. The elective disciplines cover specific modern areas of computer and software engineering and allow students to specialize their knowledge according to their personal interests and directions for professional development.

As a result of their training, bachelor engineers must acquire and possess professional competencies for creating, developing, and maintaining modern computer systems; developing and adapting modern application and system software for standard and specialized computer equipment; expanding the functional capabilities of the hardware and software of modern computer systems; developing, adapting, and implementing modern information technology solutions in various application areas; clarifying user requirements, analyzing, designing, and creating computer systems along with the corresponding documentation. Graduates of the specialty can find professional employment as software system developers, as well as perform implementation, operational, production, technological, and service activities in the field of computer systems and technologies, which are applied in industry, science, public and private business, banking, transportation, ecology, etc.
