The specialty "Mechanical Engineering and Instrumentation" is developing and establishing itself at TU-Sofia, Plovdiv branch, alongside a large-scale structural reform of the industry. In the city of Plovdiv and the region, large factories producing precision equipment, instruments, and household products, as well as those belonging to the military-industrial complex (MIC), were concentrated. Now, many small and medium-sized private companies are being created that produce products and services in the fields of precision engineering, electronics, as well as in the area of special products.

These include companies such as Optiks AD – Panagyurishte, Watts - MTB EAD Plovdiv, Liebherr-Hausgeraete Maritsa EOOD, "ANDI"; "AMP" OOD, "ATARO-CLIMA" OOD, "AIGER-ENGINEERING", NITI-Kazanlak, Stroyproekt Sofia, "Optoelectronic" Panagyurishte, "NIIEN" EOOD Sofia, NEK-EAD "HIGH VOLTAGE NETWORKS" Sofia, Plovdiv Electric Transmission District, KCM AD Plovdiv, FOLD-INS OOD Plovdiv, etc., from which letters and feedback regarding the employment of students from the specialty have been received.

In recent years, it has become evident that engineers with a specialty in "Mechanical Engineering and Instrumentation" fit very well and flexibly into positions where work is carried out at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electronics, and electrical engineering.

There is a defined increased interest in the specialty among students from the Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Haskovo, and other regions of the country.

Specialists are also being trained for enterprises in the weapons and ammunition industry, such as VMZ "Sopot" with its subdivisions, "Arsenal" AD in Kazanlak and its subdivisions. The interest from prospective students seeking employment as engineers in the field of special instrumentation is constant. The need to train personnel for the weapons and ammunition industry is also dictated by the fact that such specialists are no longer trained abroad. The training of personnel in this direction is primarily related to the design and production of small arms, ammunition, and fuses.

Bulgarian citizens and citizens of the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) member states, holding a diploma for completed secondary education, may apply as students at the Technical University – Sofia (TU – Sofia), Plovdiv Branch, at the bachelor's level of education and qualification (EQF), in accordance with the Higher Education Act, the Regulation on the State Requirements for Admission of Students to Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria, and this Regulation.

Foreign citizens from countries that are not members of the EU and the EEA, holding a diploma for completed secondary education (legalized by the Ministry of Education and Science – for those who graduated abroad), are admitted as students at TU – Sofia, Plovdiv Branch, in accordance with the Regulation on the State Requirements for Admission of Students to Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria.
