The training in the specialty at TUs – Plovdiv Branch aims to prepare executive and managerial staff for design, construction, technological, production, testing, installation, diagnostic, and repair activities in the field of printing technology. Graduates of the specialty must have in-depth knowledge in the design and pre-press preparation of materials (processing of text, images, and graphic objects). The specialty "Printing" at TUs Sofia, Plovdiv Branch is aimed at providing future engineers with comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of the main printing technologies and machines, including the latest digital printing technologies, as well as the main trends and prospects for the future in this important sector of the industry. The course is 4 years long, structured towards obtaining a bachelor's degree, after the defense of a thesis. The curriculum, respectively the study programs, distinguish the different technological stages in classical printing technologies, the specifics of the technological methods themselves, their advantages and disadvantages, their application today, as well as contemporary trends for the development of printed information and communication in general. The main disciplines in the 4-year course of study cover topics on: organization in the editorial-publishing process, electronic typesetting, layout programs for processing textual and visual information, technologies for rasterization and color separation, conventional printing processes, the main materials for printing technology, digital methods for direct exposure of information from the computer onto printing plates, digital printing in its various technological modifications - Computer-to-Print (electrophotographic and inkjet printing) and Computer-to-Press (digital offset printing), finishing processes and machines for them. The issue of the place of printing technologies in the family of information technologies and their integration into practice is addressed. The specialty has the necessary material and technical base for training in accordance with the specifics of the first and second cycle of higher education "bachelor" and "master" in the professional direction: classroom and laboratory space for educational activities and other specific educational base, adapted to the needs of the specialty. Students are trained mainly in classrooms and laboratories, which are in very good condition for conducting the educational process. The laboratories where students from the specialty are trained are equipped with specialized models and stands, computer equipment, and installations and apparatus for laboratory exercises. They also allow for a significant number of practical exercises. The laboratory for conducting specialized laboratory sessions for students from the specialty "Polygraphy" is at a high level, featuring modern computer equipment. The maintenance and servicing of the material and technical base is very good and is carried out by highly qualified permanent staff. Students also have access to computer rooms equipped with the most modern visualization tools – a computer with a multimedia projector, a slide projector, a sound system, and free Internet access outside of class hours, so they can search for the information they need when preparing course projects, course works, and other assigned topics. An organization has been established to maintain and develop modern methods in teaching course material and conducting practical sessions, as well as to evaluate student achievements. For the training of students in the specialty "Polygraphy" in the Department of Mechanics, traditional methods for conducting classes are being improved, and more modern methods are gradually being introduced. The main forms of attracting students to the department's research activities are: participation in university teams for developing research projects; publication of students' scientific works; inclusion of students in European mobility programs (Erasmus) and other bilateral cooperation agreements (with the Moscow State University of Printing Arts); publication of joint works by students and faculty: in conference proceedings and in peer-reviewed journals; student presentations at national and international scientific conferences; student participation in regularly organized exhibitions. The exhibitions are judged, and the most outstanding students are awarded cash and/or material prizes provided by sponsoring companies. Participants in the exhibitions receive certificates that could be useful when applying for various national and European scholarships, competitions, etc.
