The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1997 by a decision of the Academic Council of TU-Sofia. It originated from the specialty "Electrical Engineering and Electronics" and was transformed into the specialty "Electrical Engineering". From the 1998/1999 academic year, admission and the first students began.
Training of young specialists is carried out within the three-tier structure for educational and qualification degrees (EQF) "Bachelor", "Master", and "Doctor". In 2003 and 2007, the department successfully passed accreditations for training students in the specialty "Electrical Engineering" with EQF "Bachelor" and "Master".
The specialty "Electrical Engineering" combines classical and modern trends related to the numerous applications of electricity in the modern world. Electrical engineers who have graduated from this specialty can work in all enterprises and companies where electrical products and devices are designed, manufactured, operated, and maintained.
Training in electrical engineering is traditional for all prestigious higher technical universities worldwide. It provides a broad base of theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for the conversion and use of electrical energy and related facilities in all areas of modern life.
Currently, department members teach 42 lecture courses. The professors are authors or co-authors of 13 textbooks, study guides, and books.
The department trains bachelors and masters from the specialties "Electrical Engineering" and "Industrial Ecology" in the following directions:
- Electrical Engineering – for bachelors;
- "Industrial Ecology" – for bachelors;
- "Electrical Engineering" - for master's students.
