The Department of Chemistry at the Technical University - Sofia is one of the fundamental departments where students from all faculties and specialties are trained in the eponymous discipline, including those from faculties with instruction in German, French, and English. Faculty members from the department also teach students from the Technological School "Electronic Systems" (TUES) at TU - Sofia.
Scientific work at the department is primarily focused on the field of applied electrochemistry and polymers in the following areas:
- deposition of chemical and galvanic coatings on metals;
- galvanization of dielectrics;
- chemical and electrochemical processes in the production of double-sided and multi-layer printed circuit boards;
- corrosion and protection of metals from corrosion,
- methods for corrosion testing,
- composite materials and technologies in the field of polymers,
- modification of polymers,
- electrical insulation compositions,
- application of elastomers and polymers for microwave absorbers with radio-technical and ecological applications,
- ecological monitoring and ecological efficiency of technological systems,
- energy from waste.
A Scientific-Practical Laboratory (SPL) "Applied Electrochemistry" has been established at the department. The laboratory's scope covers scientific research and implementation activities in the field of applied electrochemistry.
