Faculty of Automation (FA) was established in 1974 and is one of the large faculties at the Technical University of Sofia. Fundamental training and the broad applied scope of the studied disciplines are among the strongest features of the Faculty of Automation. This provides graduates with a number of opportunities for professional realization in modern industry, business, and the high-tech sector.
The Faculty of Automation unites the following departments: "Automation of Electric Drives", "Automation of Continuous Production Processes", "Information-Measuring Technology", "Systems and Control", and "Theoretical Electrical Engineering". The teaching staff at FA trains students from 12 out of the total 16 main faculties of TU-Sofia in Bulgarian, English, German, and French. The training is conducted across 180 academic disciplines in 56 academic and research laboratories.
Training at the Faculty of Automation, at the educational and qualification levels (EQL) of "Bachelor" and "Master" is carried out in the professional field "Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Automation" to obtain the professional qualification "Automation Engineer".
In the first cycle of higher education (bachelor's), the training is conducted in the following specialties:
- "Automation, Information and Control Engineering" (AICE);
- "Intelligent Systems in Industry, Home and City" (ISIC).
In the second cycle of higher education (master's), the training is conducted in the following specialties:
- "Automation, Information and Control Engineering" (AICE);
- "Embedded Control Systems" (ECS).
A highly qualified and strongly motivated teaching staff trains students in the broad-profile specialty "Automation, Information and Control Engineering" (AICE) for bachelor's and master's degrees. It is among the four most sought-after specialties in the country in the field of technical sciences and is accredited with a high rating by the Accreditation Council of the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation.
For training in the master's specialty "Automation, Information and Control Engineering", applicants must have obtained a bachelor's degree in the professional directions "Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation", "Communication and Computer Engineering", and "General Engineering".
To enroll in the Master's program "Embedded Control Systems," applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in "Technical Sciences" or in "Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics" – specifically in the professional directions "Mathematics" and "Informatics and Computer Science".
Faculty of Automation is proud of its alumni, with whom it maintains continuous contact. Graduates from the faculty, together with the teaching staff, help improve the training of future engineers and the development of the laboratory infrastructure. They meet the industry's needs for scientific and technological solutions in the field of automation and information technology.
Since 2012, within the framework of the "TU-Sofia Science Days" forum in Sozopol, the Faculty of Automation annually organizes and hosts the international scientific forum AUTOMATIKA. The scientific publications of the participants in each conference are included in the collection "Yearbook of TU-Sofia" (ISSN 1311-0829).
The training of doctoral students and scientific research activities are a main priority at the FA. The scientific results of the faculty have received recognition both domestically and internationally.
