The establishment of the Department of Technologies and Management of Communication Systems in 1988 represents an important stage in the development of higher technical education in Bulgaria. With its founding, the beginning of training in the newly discovered specialty with the same name is laid, which meets the growing needs of the modern communication industry.
The establishment of the department actively involves teachers from two established units – Department of Radio Communications and Video Technologies and Department of Communication Networks. This combination creates a solid academic foundation, combining in-depth knowledge in the field of radio engineering with expertise in the design and management of modern network infrastructures.
A particularly significant contribution to the development of the department has been made by Prof. Georgi Grigorov Savov - a prominent Bulgarian scientist and specialist in the field of design and technology of radio electronic equipment. As head of a similar specialty in a previous period, he provided valuable experience and strategic vision for shaping the curriculum and scientific research.
An important role in the process of establishing the department was also played by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boyan Iliev Iliev, who, with his academic authority and dedication, contributed to the high-quality training of future engineers in the field of communication technologies.
Thanks to the combination of academic experience, resources, and a clear vision, the Department of "Technologies and Management of Communication Systems" has established itself as a stable and promising platform for education and scientific research in the rapidly evolving world of modern communication.
The faculty members of the Department of "Technologies and Management of Communication Systems" teach students at the bachelor's level in the specialization "Communication Technologies". All of them actively participate in the development of scientific research projects under internal scientific research contracts, service contracts, and scientific research contracts under NATO and SOCRATES scientific programs.
Since 2006, the Department has also been affiliated with the research laboratory "Electrification and Automation of Railway Transport" headed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tashko Nikolov. In recent years, the industry contracts of the Laboratory have been part of international projects in the "Railway Safety" section and are related to the largest tenders in the railway sector - "Construction of a train control system (ETCS) on the Plovdiv – Burgas section", "Reconstruction and modernization of the Plovdiv – Svilengrad section", "Construction of Danube Bridge 2 Vidin – Calafat".
