The Department of Radio Communications and Video Technologies is part of the Faculty of Telecommunications at TU-Sofia. It is the successor to one of the first low-current departments in Bulgaria, with a rich history, high prestige, and deep traditions in the education of students and scientific research in the field of telecommunications. The rich experience of the teachers, the excellent and modern material base allow the department to educate students at the educational and qualification level of "Bachelor", "Master" and the scientific and educational level of "Doctor".
The department is responsible for the training in many basic, theoretical and specialized disciplines for students of the eponymous specialty of the Faculty of Telecommunications. Specialized training is carried out there for the educational and qualification level of "bachelor" and "master" in the two specializations:
• Radio communications;
• Audio and video systems.
In addition to the specialty "Telecommunications", the department conducts training for students from other specialties and faculties of the Technical University - Sofia, such as the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technologies, the Faculty of Computer Systems and Control, the Faculty of Transport, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty for French Training in Electrical Engineering, the Faculty for English Engineering Training.
Based on the established schools and the accumulated scientific potential in the department, four directions have been identified, which carry out active scientific research in the fields of:
• Radio communication devices and systems
• Antennas, microwave and optical devices and systems
• Audio and video communications and technologies
• Signals and Systems
The department's faculty members are highly qualified specialists with solid theoretical training and extensive pedagogical experience. There are 25 full-time faculty members available to students, including three professors, 11 associate professors, 11 assistants, and support staff consisting of 1 engineer and 1 technical assistant.
Every year, the department sends students, PhD candidates, and faculty members for specialization, experience exchange, and training at prestigious European universities and leading telecommunications companies. The department's faculty maintains long-standing relationships with numerous foreign universities that train specialists in the fields of radio communications and video technologies. The department partners with technical universities in Munich, Hamburg, Vienna, Moscow, St. Petersburg, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the University of Ottawa in Quebec, the Universities of Arkansas, Atlanta, and Chalmers, among others.
Furthermore, active work is being carried out on the "Erasmus" program, with contracts signed with National Technical University of Athens, The Technical Universities in Ilmenau, Darmstadt, Wroclaw, Madrid, Lisbon, Nice, Copenhagen, Bialystok, etc. The department has long-standing and fruitful cooperation with companies such as Siemens, Telenor, Ericsson, A1, Vivacom, RaySat, Nokia, Neterra, and others.
