The Department of Communication Networks is part of the Faculty of Telecommunications at TU - Sofia. It is the successor of the low-current department "Low-Current and Radio Electronics", established in 1945.
Over its long period of development, the department has trained more than 7,000 telecommunications engineers. The high level of preparation of these engineers has been repeatedly confirmed over the years by numerous international expert and consulting groups. The activities of our students and faculty are also highly rated by foreign partner universities of the department in international projects. The Telecommunications specialty and the Communications Networks specialization are among the most sought-after in the country today.
The current telecommunications training at the department is conducted in regular form and has three educational degrees - bachelor, master, and doctor.
In a scientific sense, the department develops educational and scientific directions that utilize the material and technical base of the individual laboratories and contribute to raising the quality of the educational process and the scientific qualification of the teachers. Students are also involved in scientific research, contracts, and projects, which in this way make their first steps in engineering science and practice1. The educational and scientific directions include:
• Theoretical foundations of telecommunications
• Communication Networks
• Transport Technologies
• Switching and Teletraffic Engineering
• Services and Management
• Network Management
The department has a very good laboratory base with specialized equipment. The department works very actively on the "Erasmus" program, and the faculty have contacts and carry out exchanges of students, interns, and doctoral students with over 20 foreign universities across Europe.
