The Department of Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Methods at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics was established in late 2016. It is considered the successor to the former departments of "Differential Equations" and "Stochastics and Optimization".
The main areas of the department's scientific activity are related to applied problems in the field of numerical methods, differential equations, optimization, statistics, mathematical modeling, control theory, and others. The academic staff of the department actively participates in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in higher mathematics at all faculties of the Technical University of Sofia, as well as in teaching core and elective disciplines in the "Applied Mathematics and Informatics" and "Applied Physics" specialties at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics.
The members of the department continuously update their competencies. The teachers of the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Methods teach the following courses:
- Higher Mathematics 1, 2, 3;
- Quantitative Methods and Statistics (Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering);
- Differential Geometry (FPMI);
- Optimization (FPMI);
- Operations Research 1, 2 (FPMI);
- Equations of Mathematical Physics;
- Numerical Methods with Partial Differential Equations (FPMI);
- Numerical Methods with Ordinary Differential Equations (FPMI);
- Numerical Modeling with Neural Networks (FPMI);
- Reliability and Mass Service (FPMI);
- Financial Mathematics (FPMI);
- Mathematics for the Specialty EEO (Faculty of Electrical Engineering);
