The Department "Mathematical Analysis and Differential Equations" is a core scientific unit within the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of the Technical University – Sofia. It provides education in fundamental and applied mathematical disciplines, conducts scientific research in the fields of analysis, differential equations, and mathematical modeling, and actively participates in international projects and conferences. The department trains specialists with a high level of mathematical culture and analytical thinking, which are essential for engineering and scientific applications.
The academic staff of the department ensures the scientific and teaching activities in the bachelor's and master's programs of various engineering specialties, as well as in the specialties "Applied Mathematics", "Informatics", and "Geoinformatics". In the bachelor's program, the department's teachers cover:
- the main courses in higher mathematics 1, 2, 3 (lectures and seminars);
- the courses in real analysis 1, 2, 3 (in the specialty "Applied Mathematics and Informatics" (AMI));
- Complex Analysis course (in the PMI specialty);
- Financial Mathematics (in the PMI specialty);
- Informatics, first and second parts (in the PMI specialty);
- Fundamentals of Operating Systems and Computer Graphics;
- Quantitative Methods and Statistics (seminars and labs at the Faculty of Economics, TU-Sofia);
- Object-Oriented Programming;
- Integral Equations (in the PMI specialty);
- Differential Geometry;
- Optimization (in the specialization Applied Mathematics and Informatics)
- the higher mathematics courses at the German and French faculties.
The following specialized courses are covered in the master's degree of the Applied Mathematics and Informatics specialization:
- Mathematical methods in reflection theory;
- Functional analysis and applications;
- Analytical methods in nonlinear evolution equations.
The department's faculty members are scientific supervisors for dozens of successfully defended graduates from the Applied Mathematics and Informatics (AMI) specialization at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics.
