Department of Informatics under the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics was founded by Prof. Mikhail Mihaylov, who is also its first head. After a period of interruption, the department was restored at the end of 2016, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anna Rozeva became its head.
Today, the department offers training at the educational and qualification levels Bachelor's and Master's in the specialty Informatics and Software Sciences, which is taught in both Bulgarian and English. For master's students, the specialization "Big Data Analysis"is also offered, focusing on modern information processing and analysis technologies.
The Department of Informatics is an active member of the Academic Community on Computer Systems and Information Technologies (ACCSIT) – a professional association that brings together leading teachers, researchers, and specialists in the field of computer science and information technologies.
Within the framework of the project, the faculty is developing a virtual platform for interactive presentation of the cultural-historical heritage, which combines modern information technologies with scientific research in the field of humanities.
