The Department participates in the realization of the mission of the Technical University - Sofia by training specialists with a broad legal and humanitarian culture, possessing in-depth knowledge of the principles and mechanisms by which modern democratic society develops - worthy citizens of the Republic of Bulgaria and the European Union, upholding the prestige of:
- engineering;
- managerial profession.
In its current form, the Department of "Legal and Humanities" was established in 2009 as a primary unit of the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University - Sofia, and its first head was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Cheneshev.
It originated on the basis of the Departments of "Humanities and Design" (1997–2009) and "Humanities" (1993–1996), whose heads in different years were:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. P. Ganchev,
- Prof. Dr. G. Georgiev,
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Al. Nikov,
- Assoc. Dr. Eng. M. Denchev.
The activities of the Department of Legal and Humanities Sciences are focused on the following main areas:
- raising the standard of instruction in legal and humanities disciplines in accordance with the highest global standards, with a view to the professional success of Technical University graduates and the development of their leadership potential;
- fostering values, attitudes, and personal strategies for continuous self-improvement and the development of students’ creative abilities, which are well-suited to the dynamic conditions of professional life;
- to enhance the quality of research activities and ensure full participation in the country’s academic life, thereby contributing to the establishment of the Technical University as a leading educational and cultural institution in the Republic of Bulgaria.
The members of the faculty have specialized at leading universities and centers for the humanities in Bulgaria and abroad. Their main publications are in the fields of:
Philosophy of Culture, Political Philosophy, Patent Law, Corporate Culture, Administrative Law, Organizational Behavior, Labor Law, Public and Marketing Communication, Business Ethics, Intercultural Communication, Contemporary Social Theories, and others.
Faculty members from the Department of Legal and Humanities Sciences teach courses in legal and humanities disciplines at the bachelor’s and master’s levels in the majors “Industrial Management,” “Business Management,” and “Public Administration” at the Faculty of Economics, as well as in many of the programs offered by other faculties at the Technical University of Sofia.
