The Department of "Economics, Industrial Engineering and Management" (EIEM) is an emanation of the 80-year tradition of the Technical University – Sofia in training highly qualified managerial personnel. The Department has a key role in the creation in 1991 of the Faculty of Economics at TU-Sofia in response to public expectations for providing modern managerial education.
Having passed through various stages of sustainable upward development, the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management today provides training in all management specialties at the university and in the academic disciplines in the fields of economics, management, marketing, finance, industrial engineering, production management, innovation and entrepreneurship management and others, included in the study plans of students from all other specialties at the university.
Thanks to the specializations of the department's faculty at elite universities in the EU, USA, Canada, Australia, India, Russia, and others, the department offers managerial training that meets all the latest trends.
Since its establishment, the specialties provided by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management have been established as some of the most sought-after by students and employers. This is evidenced by the numerous recognitions and rankings in which they are placed first or among the top contenders. In the current national ranking of the Ministry of Education and Science, the specialty "Industrial Management" holds the prestigious first place among all other specialties in the same professional field, while "Business Administration" and "Public Administration" are in third place among their equivalents in accredited universities in Bulgaria.

The Department of Economics, Industrial Engineering, and Management (IIEM) has a long and rich history. It was established in 1945 and has had the following names to date:
1991–present – “Economics, Industrial Engineering, and Management.”
1984–1990 – “Economics, Organization, and Management of Mechanical Engineering Production,” headed by Prof. Minko Atanasov.
1969–1983 – “Organization and Economics of Mechanical Engineering Production,” headed by: Prof. Eng. Kosta Dulev (1969–1971) and Prof. Minko Atanasov (from 1972).
1945 to 1968 – “Mechanical Technology and Factory Organization,” headed by Academician Prof. Angel Balevski, Ph.D. (founder).
