The Department of "Energy and Mechanical Engineering" is a main structural unit of the College of Energy and Electronics (CEE) at the Technical University (TU) - Sofia. The Department (as part of CEE) has national accreditation for training in the specialties "Industrial Thermal Engineering" (ITE) and "Mechanical Engineering and Instrumentation" (MEI). Currently, training is conducted only in the ITE specialty. The duration of study is 3 years (six semesters). Graduates who complete the full course receive higher education and the educational-qualificational degree of "professional bachelor". The forms of study are: full-time and full-time (extended semester). The main feature of the curricula is the extended practical training, which is implemented through semester internships and specialized pre-graduation practice. Highly qualified teachers participate in the educational process, selected from both the department's own staff and the faculties of TU. Leading specialists from BAS and industry are also involved. Five of the department's teachers are associate professors, while the rest are assistants, two of whom hold the academic-educational degree of "PhD in Engineering". The Department is conditionally divided into two sections: the "Energy" section and the "Mechanical Engineering" section. Teachers from the department also deliver lectures and exercises in the other CEE specialty "Electrical Engineering - Production and Distribution" (EE-PD). The Department has a good laboratory base used for practical sessions. Some internships are conducted at leading companies. The curricula for individual disciplines are designed to reflect the current level of science and technology, with an emphasis on the practical aspects of the topics. The department's teachers have prepared and continue to create and improve a number of textbooks and study materials to assist students in mastering the course content. The lecture and laboratory rooms used by the department, as well as the teachers' offices, are located in Building 16 - low-rise, in the Student City.
