The main goal of the study program in "Metrology and Measuring Technology" is to prepare highly qualified and broadly profiled specialists with a solid general technical background and in-depth knowledge in metrology and measuring technology, capable of performing production, technological, operational, installation, repair, and organizational-management activities in metrological assurance, control, calibration of measuring instruments, and their application in science and industry.Engineers specializing in "Metrology and Measuring Technology" will be leaders in the country in developing and applying principles, methods, and tools for metrological assurance, certification, testing, and assessment of safety and quality of products and processes defined by the international, European, and national regulatory framework - legislative acts and standards.The specialization meets the needs in various areas of the economy: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, automation, ecology, medicine, biotechnology, energy, communications, transport, and corresponds to the dynamics of their development.When developing the curriculum for the specialization, the opinions of leading companies in the industry regarding the preparation of personnel with the professional qualification of "engineer" were taken into account, as well as the content of the offered training in similar specializations at domestic and foreign universities.

The engineer specializing in "MIT" with an educational-qualificational degree of "master" has:

a high level of complex fundamental training acquired in accordance with the requirements for the training of a master's degree engineer;
a level of general culture corresponding to the requirements for higher education;
knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the respective field, as well as knowledge of a wide range of mathematical and engineering methods for the research and analysis of products, processes, and systems using modern technical tools and software;
broad knowledge in the field of management activities.

The engineer specializing in "MIT" with an educational-qualificational degree of "master" solves complex managerial and operational tasks. For this highly qualified activity, interdisciplinary academic education is required, which covers knowledge in the following areas:

engineering sciences - design, research, implementation, and maintenance of measuring instruments, metrological assurance, and quality control;
economic sciences - economics, marketing, project management, human resources, business communications, etc.;
information sciences – information provision, automation and computer control;
social and legal sciences – technical legislation of the EU and the Republic of Bulgaria, standardization, legal metrology.

The preparation of the master's program in the specialty "Metrology and Measuring Technology" is built on the knowledge and skills acquired during the bachelor's studies in the following groups of disciplines: fundamental; general engineering; specialized engineering; and humanities.

According to the current Law on Measurements in the Republic of Bulgaria, there are two state management bodies in the field of measurements - BIM and DAMTN, which are potential employers of future metrology engineers. The IA BSA under the Ministry of Economy and Energy is also a potential employer for personnel with competencies in calibration, testing, control, and certification.
