Information technologies are finding increasingly wide application in industry and modern production, which drives the growing demand for specialists with interdisciplinary training. There is a need for engineers who possess in-depth knowledge in the field of information technologies, the design and development of software products, the processing and analysis of information flows, as well as skills for integrating them with modern production processes and technologies.
The training also includes knowledge of the technological capabilities of modern production machines and equipment, three-dimensional engineering modeling, virtual engineering, computer and industrial networks and communications, as well as modern tools and technologies for digital design and production management.

To apply for studies in the specialty, Bulgarian citizens and citizens of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area, who hold a diploma for completed secondary education, can apply. The application is made by submitting applicant documents and ranking by specialties. Only candidates who have successfully passed the competitive exams (tests) and/or the state maturity exams (maturities) in the subjects provided for the respective specialties participate in the ranking.

The general theoretical training of students studying the specialty is carried out during the first three semesters through the study of courses aimed at acquiring fundamental knowledge in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering design, materials science, theory of materials, fundamentals of engineering design, theoretical electrical engineering and electrical measurements, technical mechanics, semiconductor devices, and foreign languages. The specialized training includes the study of academic courses related to the theoretical foundations of information and computer technologies, as well as to the methods and means for processing information flows and integrating them with production processes and technologies. The profile-specific training includes the study of elective academic courses organized as modules, which allows students to choose courses in accordance with their own interests and perspectives for the development and use of information technologies in specific industrial areas.

The Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies has intensive international contacts with a number of European universities. Students enrolled in the specialties of the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies have the opportunity to participate in student mobility based on bilateral "Erasmus" agreements with partners from England, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Malta. There are numerous international and national scientific projects in which faculty members, doctoral students, and students from the FCST participate.
