Information technologies are finding increasingly wide application in industry and modern manufacturing technologies, leading to growing demand for specialists with interdisciplinary training. Engineers are needed who possess in-depth knowledge and skills in the field of designing and developing software products, processing information flows, and integrating information technologies with modern manufacturing processes and technologies.
The training also includes knowledge of the technological capabilities of modern manufacturing machines and equipment, tools and technologies for three-dimensional engineering modeling, methods of virtual engineering, as well as principles for building computer and industrial networks and communication systems.

To apply for studies in the specialty, Bulgarian citizens and citizens of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area, who hold a diploma for completed secondary education, can apply. The application is made by submitting the required documents and ranking by specialties. Only candidates who have successfully passed the competitive exams (tests) and/or the state maturity exams (maturities) in the subjects provided for the respective specialties participate in the ranking.

The general theoretical training of students studying the specialty is carried out during the first three semesters through the study of courses for acquiring fundamental knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering design, materials science, theory of materials, basics of engineering design, theoretical electrical engineering and electrical measurements, technical mechanics, semiconductor elements, foreign languages. The specialized training includes the study of academic courses related to the theoretical foundations of information and computer technologies, as well as the methods and means for processing information flows and integrating them with production processes and technologies. The profile training includes the study of elective academic courses, organized as modules, which allows students to choose courses in accordance with their own interests and perspectives for the development and use of information technologies in specific industrial areas.

Graduates of the specialization will be able to successfully work as information managers, system administrators, developers of industrial software products and services, as well as specialists in industrial communication systems and networks.
They will find professional opportunities in small, medium, and large enterprises from various industrial sectors, including mechanical engineering, engineering companies in the field of industrial automation and intra-plant logistics, firms for developing and implementing industrial information and communication systems, as well as in consulting companies specializing in the implementation and maintenance of information technologies and systems for product data management (PDM), product lifecycle management (PLM), and enterprise resource planning (ERP). Graduates can also work in public administration, the corporate sector, and organizations developing modern digital solutions for industry.
