Computer systems and information technologies are the fastest developing and changing field in our days, which plays a huge role in modern society and has deeply penetrated all aspects of our lives. There is a huge shortage of personnel to ensure the successful development of the software industry in Bulgaria. According to a special study by BASCOM (Bulgarian Association of Software Companies), three times more specialists are needed for the successful development of the software industry in Bulgaria.

Graduates of the Faculty of "Computer Systems and Technologies" are successfully employed in a wide range of companies, enterprises, and organizations in the ICT sector, as well as in many other high-tech industries in Bulgaria and abroad. Over 98% of graduates find professional employment in their acquired specialty and rank among the engineers with the highest incomes in the country (according to data from the National Social Security Institute and the Employment Agency).

For training in the specialty Bulgarian citizens and citizens of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area, holding a diploma for completed secondary education, may apply. Applications are submitted by providing the required documents and ranking by specialty. Only candidates who have successfully passed the competitive exams (tests) and/or the state maturity exams (matura) in the subjects prescribed for the respective specialties participate in the ranking.

For successful professional activity it is necessary to acquire theoretical knowledge and understanding of the main facts, concepts, terms, and theories in the field of computer and software systems and technologies, as well as skills for applying this knowledge to design, programming, implementation, maintenance, development, adaptation, and localization of computer and information systems. Students receive high professional training, rich language culture, as well as knowledge in the fields of economics, management, and marketing. The general theoretical training is carried out during the first two years through the study of mandatory courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, general technical disciplines, foreign languages, etc. The specialized training includes the study of mandatory academic courses from various areas of computer and information technologies, including synthesis and analysis of algorithms, programming languages, programming environments, operating systems, computer architectures, computer peripherals, microprocessor technology, analysis and synthesis of logical circuits, digital circuit design, high-performance computer systems, parallel programming, programming for mobile devices, computer networks, computer graphics. The specialized training provides for the study of elective academic courses in three modules: computer engineering, software systems, information technologies. The elective disciplines cover specific contemporary areas of computer and software engineering and allow students to profile their knowledge according to their personal interests and directions for professional development.
