The specialty is among the four most sought-after in Bulgaria in the field of technical sciences and is accredited with a high rating by the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation. It falls within the four national scientific priorities with strong innovative potential and significance for the economic development of the Republic of Bulgaria. It is a fact that modern machines are automatons and robots, and modern processes are automated and robotic. Therefore, master engineers in automation are widely sought after in all spheres of modern engineering and technology.

Admission of students to the educational and qualification level (EQL) "master", who have completed EQL "bachelor" in the specialty "Automation, Information and Control Engineering" (AICE), with a grade of no less than "good" (4.00), is conducted through a document-based competition. Only those who have completed EQL "bachelor" in the specialty AICE can apply for state-funded positions. Candidates may also include students who have graduated from other universities. The training of masters who have completed EQL "bachelor", "master's degree" in another specialty or PhD "Professional Bachelor" begins with paid compensatory training, which does not grant an additional qualification degree.

The master's program in the specialization "Automation, Information and Control Engineering" lasts for one and a half years. Students study high-tech modern disciplines such as Optimal Control, Adaptive Control, Robotics, Power Electronics for Electric Drives, Modeling and Optimization, Distributed Control Systems, Design of Electric Drive Systems, Control of Industrial Manipulators, and others, which further develop the skills and knowledge acquired from the specialized disciplines in the bachelor's program of the specialization.

Graduates with a Master's degree in Automation Engineering can successfully work in engineering, manufacturing, and design firms, in the field of automatic control systems; management and executive units in industry, energy, transport, construction, and the non-production sector; instrument-making and metrological services, industrial enterprises; firms related to automation and quality control; enterprises focused on the production and operation of automation means; educational and qualification units for training personnel in the field of automation and information-measurement technology.
