Professional High School of Computer Technologies and Systems – Pravets

The school was established as an Educational Qualification Technological Center (ECTC), in the town of Pravets, in 1986 year by a decree of the Council of Ministers.

The goal is to train specialists in the field of information technology, necessary for the 8 and 16-bit personal computersproduced in the town of Pravets. It is part of the structure of the State Union "Microprocessor Systems".

Training and professional development

At the National Professional Gymnasium for Computer Technologies and Systems (NPCTS), 660 students from across the country are enrolled, of whom 445 reside in the dormitory. They are trained in an atmosphere of innovation and academic development, which contributes to and facilitates their faster professional adaptation.

Highly qualified instructors – professors, associate professors, and assistants from the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies at TU Sofia provide a solid foundation of knowledge in the fields of electronics and programming.

As part of the professional training, subjects such as programming, databases, software development, computer peripherals and multimedia, computer networks, computer graphics and design, embedded systems, and others are studied.

The training course is 5 years long. The curriculum includes all general education subjects from the state educational requirements. English is studied intensively at the high school, and as a second foreign language – German, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese.

After completing grade 12 and successfully passing the state maturity exams, students receive a diploma that allows them to continue their education at all universities in Bulgaria and abroad. They also receive a certificate of professional qualification – profession: 'System Programmer' after taking a state exam for professional qualification.

Candidate students who have graduated from the National Professional High School of Telecommunications and Computer Science – Pravets and the Technical University of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – Sofia compete among themselves for 15% of the places for all specialties at the Technical University. Students from the National Professional High School of Telecommunications and Computer Science – Pravets and the Technical University of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – Sofia, who have graduated from secondary education with an average grade of 5.00 – 6.00, are ranked and admitted as students at TU – Sofia as their first choice.

Sports and health

The school places great emphasis on the health and physical development of students by providing various types of sports that they can choose from themselves – table tennis, basketball, football, aerobics, badminton, archery, volleyball, and orienteering, for which a modern multifunctional sports court and a gymnasium are provided.

A mandatory one-week ski course is included in the curriculum and conducted in the first year.
A student sports club operates at the National Polytechnic School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. The school's teams have prestigious participations and win awards at regional, national, and republican student games.

The school's basketball team is a three-time national champion and has participated in two world student championships. The table tennis team won first place at the regional student championship.
