Research Sector

Research Sector (RS) is an independent service unit of TU-Sofia of paramount importance for the research and applied activities of the university's faculty, engineering and technical staff, doctoral students, and students.

Technical University of Sofia is a modern educational and scientific complex with highly qualified teachers, researchers, and engineering and technical staff. The laboratory base with modern equipment and a qualified research staff ensure high-quality scientific research and experimental studies.

The main goal of Technical University - Sofia is to establish it as a leading European scientific and research center.

Through its infrastructure, scientific potential, and network of contacts, the University supports the solution of numerous scientific and engineering problems related to societal needs.

The main tasks of NIS are:

Organization, coordination, and administrative support of research projects
With leading European and national funding programs – Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe, Operational Program "Innovations and Competitiveness", National Innovation Fund, Scientific Research Fund, and others;
Organization of "TU-Sofia Science Days"
A unique annual gathering format, including about 30 scientific forums with diverse topics covering all technical fields, as well as economic and artistic-creative challenges;
Administrative support for research and applied contracts with businesses
TU-Sofia has a well-developed scientific infrastructure, concentrated in 4 centers of excellence, over 40 research laboratories, with unique and diverse equipment for research and training. The traditional work of these laboratories on specific tasks commissioned by businesses enriches the university's scientific-applied and educational activities and is a necessary prerequisite for the transfer of knowledge and technology;
Management of intellectual property
The new techniques and technologies developed at TU-Sofia are protected by patents and utility models, whose management and funding are ensured by NIS;
Organization of Internal Competitions for Scientific Research
These competitions support the creative activities of students, doctoral students, and young researchers, encourage publication activity by supporting publication in indexed journals, and assist in organizing scientific forums;
Enforcement of ethical standards in the field of scientific research
Cohesion with European requirements in this area, through the development, approval, and implementation of the necessary documents – the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, the Code of Conduct for the Selection of Researchers, the Strategy for Human Resources Development, and the European Commission’s “HR Excellence in Research” logo. Establishing standards in the field of publication ethics and ensuring opportunities for plagiarism checks.
