The Scientific Research Laboratory “CAD/CAM/CAE in Industry” was established in 1988. Since 1993, the laboratory has been conducting its activities by implementing scientific research and applied projects with industrial partners and in collaboration with universities from Europe and the USA.
The laboratory primarily operates in the field of applied research in mechanical engineering, engineering, and consulting for the development and improvement of new products, their prototyping and industrialization, aiming for the rapid and effective realization of new ideas and reducing time-to-market.
Today, the SRI “CAD/CAM/CAE in Industry” continuously develops and enhances its capabilities, utilizing the most advanced CAD/CAM/CAE technologies and the potential of its highly qualified engineering team.
The head of the laboratory is Prof. Dr. Eng. Georgi Todorov, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology. Prof. Dr. Eng. Georgi Todorov is an alumnus of the Technical University – Sofia, specializing in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. For many years, he has worked intensively on projects related to the conception, calculation, modeling, design, re-engineering, and prototyping of mechanical engineering products and components, which are subject to production in various sectors of industry. He is the holder of dozens of scientific developments implemented in domestic and foreign companies, and industrial projects with partners from France, Germany, and Italy. He is the author of seven publications in refereed journals and three patents. In his scientific research activities, his interests are focused on the field of micro-electromechanical systems, energy recovery systems, etc. In recent years, Prof. Dr. G. Todorov has been the recipient of numerous awards, including: the “Ikar” award in the INTELLIGENCE category for 2008, the “Pythagoras” award for 2009 – the special award of the “SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH” Fund under the Ministry of Education and Science in the FIELD OF APPLIED RESEARCH, an Honorary Certificate for an innovative scientific research organization for 2009, and the honorary badge “Golden Book” for contribution to the development of Bulgarian science.
The Laboratory team includes three doctors and six graduated masters with high qualifications in solving engineering problems. Four members of the team are regular PhD students working on topics related to modern engineering approaches and CAD/CAM/CAE technologies.
Annually, a large number of students, graduates, and PhD students from various engineering specialties study and work in the laboratory, including alumni of foreign technical universities (Germany, Spain, Netherlands, USA, China).
