The implementation of project BG05M2OP001-1.001-0001 "Construction and Development of the Center of Excellence "Heritage BG" under the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Intelligent Growth", priority axis 1 "Scientific Research and Technological Development", procedure BG05M2OP001-1.001 "Construction and Development of Centers of Excellence", Component 4 "New Technologies in Creative and Recreational Industries" has started.
The granted non-repayable financial assistance is in the maximum amount of up to 29,785,549.49 BGN. The project implementation period is 70 months, starting from February 28, 2018, the date of contract signing (28.02.2018).
The lead organization for implementing the project activities is Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", which will partner with eleven additional educational and scientific organizations:
- Technical University, Sofia (TU),
- University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACG),
- National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" (NSA),
- National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NIGGG),
- Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IESFS),
- Institute for Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IAS BAS),
- Institute of Literature at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IL BAS),
- Kirilo-Methodiev Scientific Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (KMS BAS),
- Institute of Balkan Studies with Center for Thracology "Prof. Alexander Fol" at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT BAS),
- National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" (NLCM) and
- Regional Historical Museum, Sofia (RHMS).
The main objective of the project is to establish a modern infrastructure for scientific research and innovation activities in the fields of creative and recreational industries (Center of Excellence "Heritage BG"). The expected result is the creation of conditions for the development of modern technologies and the advancement of market-oriented scientific research, which will contribute to: overcoming the country's lag behind leading scientific centers at the European and global levels; integrating Bulgarian scientific organizations into the European research space; building sustainable partnerships with leading European universities and institutes; strengthening the science-business link.
