
115 faculty members, staff, and doctoral students at the Technical University – Sofia participated in the 16th tourist hike at the invitation of Rector Prof. Georgi Venkov. The hike started from the university's base in the resort of Semkovo. 2 groups set off on 2 different routes. One group climbed to the Gorni Kuki saddle (elevation 2435 m), after which they conquered Vapa Peak (elevation 2528 m) and the Vapa Lakes.

The route of the second group went through the Vapata River valley and the 'Following the Glacier' eco-trail to reach the Vapa Lakes.

The group leaders were senior lecturers Todor Stefanov and Alexander Kapitanski from the Department of Physical Education and Sport, and the local mountain rescue worker in the Semkovo resort from the SAR – Razlog detachment, Lyubomir Zotev, who shared interesting facts about the history of the Semkovo resort from its establishment to its development as a resort center for the training and leisure of students and faculty. The participants also learned interesting details about the Rila peaks and areas they passed through.

Rector of TU – Sofia Prof. Georgi Venkov presented a certificate of appreciation to Assoc. Prof. Emil Altimirski from the FTK for his exceptional contribution to the organization and conduct of the annual mass tourist hikes for the academic community.
