On September 21, 2022, the Bode Laboratory was officially opened at the Technical University – Sofia. The laboratory is an educational, research, and faculty laboratory, as students, teachers, and researchers from various faculties participate here. It is unique in the country; it is a chamber used for measuring acoustic noise, and its characteristic and feature is that it primarily dampens all background noises, while measuring the noise that interests us, stated the Rector of the Technical University – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov. He noted that a wheel for a high-speed train, produced in our country, distributed and operated worldwide and especially in Europe, will be measured. "This is an example of the practical use of this laboratory, an example of the synergy that exists between teachers and individual faculties, the entire scientific-research staff of our university. I thank everyone for its construction and hope it will be used and modernized by everyone at the university, and why not by external colleagues outside the Technical University – Sofia," he added.
"This laboratory is being reborn," said Prof. Dr. Eng. Georgi Todorov, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technologies and Chairman of the General Assembly of TU – Sofia, at the ceremony. It was created in the distant year of 1983 as a laboratory for acoustic noise for metal-cutting machines, then headed by Prof. Ivan Toshev. Our daily experience showed that such a laboratory is needed in our university. The unit dealing with acoustics and noise from the Department of Mechanics, led by Prof. Králov, recognized the opportunity to modernize this laboratory. It is an excellent example of how, between the various units in the university, a path can be found for excellent cooperation. The new Bode chamber, I do not know if there is another certified one in Bulgaria, aims to serve for such measurements. The wheel inside is the subject of a research project with business, which led to the development of a new methodology for measuring noise before it is installed in the composition itself, so that it serves adequately. The main significance of the new laboratory is the synergy; we from the former MTF, now the Faculty of Industrial Technologies, are responsible for generating the noise, while the Faculty of Transport is responsible for measuring the noise.
Prof. Dr. Eng. Mikhail Todorov, Dean of the Faculty of Transport, added that a fully modern acoustic laboratory is being opened and confirmed that it is the only one in the country. Its location is at the Technical University – Sofia, he said.
The head of the department responsible for the laboratory itself, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Krassimir Nedelchev, stated that with the new acquisition, the scope of acoustic measurements that can be made in it is expanded, and this will lead to even greater opportunities for scientific research at TU – Sofia.
