
Prof. Kamen Veselinov was born on February 23, 1946, in Blagoevgrad. He completed his higher education at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, majoring in "Applied Mechanics." He defended his dissertation (Ph.D.) on the topic "Loading of thick-walled spheres, thin disks, and thick-walled pipes at high temperatures" (TU-Dresden, 1974).
He began his professional career as an assistant at TU-Dresden (1969). He joined VMEI-Sofia as a Senior Researcher II (1975-1978). He became Associate Professor (1985) and Professor (2002) in Structural Mechanics and Strength of Materials. During the periods 1983-1984 and 1988-1990, he served as Deputy Head of the Chair "Strength of Materials." He was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Transport (1989-1992). He was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of German Engineering Education and Industrial Management (FaGIOPM, 1990-1992). He was Dean of FaGIOPM (1992-2000).
Deputy Minister of Education and Science with portfolio "Higher Education" (2003-2004).
Deputy Chairman of the National Council for Science (2004), representative of Bulgaria in the Committee for Scientific and Technical Research of the European Commission.
Rector of the Technical University – Sofia (2005-2011).
Chairman of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria (2011-2016).
Author of over 80 scientific publications and 3 educational editions.
Inventions: "Method for determining the resource under random loading."
The main areas of his scientific and teaching activities are: material and structural fatigue, numerical methods in mechanics, structural mechanics, light metal structures, strength of materials, technical mechanics.
Head of numerous scientific contracts and 5 successfully defended and habilitated doctoral students (as of 2004); reviewer for several dissertations and habilitations in Bulgaria and abroad. Representative of Bulgaria in scientific cooperation within the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance in the field of material fatigue; member of the organizing committees of international conferences in Bulgaria and abroad. Representative of TU-Sofia and contractor in several international projects for assessing engineering education, university management, and the development of higher education.
