On November 5, 2018, an exhibition on the topic "Israeli Discoveries and Developments That Changed the World" opened at TU-Sofia and will visit the Technical University - Sofia in the coming days. The exhibition was first presented to the Bulgarian audience in 2017 and is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel. It presents a number of Israeli discoveries from various fields of science, technology, and medicine that have found wide application in the modern world, including:
- The small data storage and transfer device DiskOnKey - a USB flash drive that has already become an integral part of our modern daily life. It was invented and developed in Israel.
- The use of the Firewall for computer network security started 25 years ago. The development is the work of Gil Shwed, Check Point company, and today protects millions of users around the world. Firewall-1 is the first product that offers innovative technology for protecting computer networks from intrusion. The product, based on the patented Stateful Inspection technology, can recognize infiltration attempts by using modern analysis of information from communication traffic.
- Around the world today, we use our personal computers and smartphones to make calls via the internet. Lior Haramati and Alon Cohen from VocalTec (merged with MagicJack) developed the first software that allows voice calls to be made via a personal computer using the internet and computer networks. This innovation is patented and has led to the creation of internet telephony (VoIP) and the establishment of many companies both in Israel and around the world. The product is used for transmitting telephone calls, significantly reducing call prices and laying the foundation for many of the popular applications we use today.
- Today, life without electricity is unimaginable, and the connection of additional energy sources and energy consumption is constantly growing, which has repeatedly led to power outages in high-voltage networks. The GridON concept, developed by Israeli scientists for the use of electrical networks worldwide, provides reliability to the power transmission grid and limits accidents. In this way, it prevents electric shocks, improves network security and efficiency, and allows the connection of energy sources, including renewable energy sources. This technology has already been installed in the United Kingdom's network, serving tens of thousands of customers.
