
From June 24 to 26, 2024, the Technical University – Sofia hosted the first-of-its-kind event “Sustainable Nuclear Innovations Platform”. It was organized by the Kozloduy Nuclear Competence Center and the Bulgarian Nuclear Society, in partnership with the Bulgarian National Committee of the World Energy Council, “AES Kozloduy” EAD, and the Nuclear Regulatory Agency. The goal of the discussion platform was to provide an opportunity for stakeholders from the Bulgarian and European nuclear sectors to organize meetings and exchange views.
The Rector of TU – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov, welcomed the participants, while speeches were delivered by Georgi Samandov – Deputy Minister of Energy, Petio Ivanov – Executive Director of “AES Kozloduy – New Capacity” EAD, Tsenko Bachiski – Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, and Assoc. Prof. Mladen Mitev – Chairman of the Bulgarian Nuclear Society. Video messages to the forum participants were delivered by Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova and William Magwood IV, Director General of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
During the forum, experts and leaders from policy-making institutions in this field and leading international organizations, as well as specialists from academia and business, presented their positions.
As part of the “Sustainable Nuclear Innovations Platform” event, the Technical University – Sofia hosted the European final of the third edition of the I4N (Innovation for Nuclear) Europe competition, organized by the Youth Network of the European Nuclear Society.
