
Today, on April 26, 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between TU - Sofia and Framatome AD. Framatome is a designer, supplier, and manufacturer of products and services in the nuclear field, particularly in systems for steam supply produced from nuclear energy and nuclear equipment, components, services, and fuel for high levels of safety and performance. TU - Sofia has the highest professional and academic capacity in a number of technical fields, including the design and production of various mechanical components and nuclear technologies.
The Memorandum aims to develop joint educational initiatives aimed at nuclear engineering students in order to acquire technical knowledge necessary for professional development in the nuclear industry. The Memorandum will ensure the improvement of Bulgarian capabilities in key requirements and aspects in nuclear energy. Joint initiatives are planned to improve the attractiveness of the specialty "Nuclear Energy" in Bulgaria.
The two parties will cooperate by providing internships at Framatome, lasting from three to six months for students in the master's program. One-week lectures by Framatome experts will be held for students according to a coordinated program with teachers from TU - Sofia. Visits by teachers from the Technical University - Sofia to Framatome facilities will also be organized to exchange experience with heads of technical departments of the company in Paris and Lyon and their presentations at some of the largest industrial facilities of Framatome. This is the Large Components Plant for Nuclear Reactors in Burgundy, as well as training on a nuclear reactor simulator.
Joint initiatives may cover the following areas and directions:
- Electrical part;
- Mechanical engineering;
- Instrumentation and Control;
- Nuclear safety;
- Thermohydraulics;
- Fluid mechanics.
The memorandum was signed by the Deputy Rector of TU - Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Lidia Galabova and Bernard Fontana, Executive Director of Framatome AD.
