
On September 24, 2024, the Technical University - Sofia officially opened the academic year 2024/2025. The opening ceremony was attended by the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov, the Acting Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bulgaria, H.E. Zakia El Midaoui, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Irene Maria Plank, the Attaché for Cooperation of the Embassy of the French Republic, Arno Bobero, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Technical University - Sofia, Vasil Velev, the Deputy Rectors of the University - Prof. Eng. Lidia Galbova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Rosen Radonov, Assoc. Prof. Eng. Elitsa Gieva, the Deans of the Faculties, and other official guests. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Georgi Venkov, Deputy Rector for Educational Activities, Accreditation, and Academic Staff. A special greeting to the freshmen was delivered by the student Maria Tonkova from the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies.
This year, over 2,400 first-year students were admitted to the Technical University - Sofia. The University conducted a successful admissions campaign because it provides students with up-to-date, in-depth, and forward-looking education. The most modern specialties at the moment, such as artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity, and aerospace engineering, attract future specialists who can work in leading Bulgarian and global companies.
The Rector of TU - Sofia, Prof. Králov, proudly emphasized that over 170,000 engineers and specialists have graduated from the university. The opening ceremony was exciting for the freshmen, as the national anthem and the student anthem "Gaudeamus igitur" were played. The freshmen also welcomed the university flag.

The Technical University - Sofia is proud of its past, its fruitful present, and its future, because the education it offers is competitive with many prestigious universities. A special guest at the ceremony was also Prof. Galin Tsokov, Minister of Education and Science. The emphasis of his speech was that today, the Technical University - Sofia is one of the leading universities, not only in Bulgaria but also in Southeast Europe.


Technical Excellencies, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Zakia El Midaoui, and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Irene Maria Plank, welcomed the freshmen with inspiring words. The Attaché for Cooperation of the Embassy of the French Republic, Arno Bobero, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Technical University - Sofia, Vasil Velev, encouraged the students in their first steps in technical sciences. The first-year student admitted to the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies, Maria Tonkova, shared that her dream was to become a student at TU-Sofia, because it is here that dreams of knowledge and success become reality.
The ceremony concluded with the anthem of the Technical University - Sofia.
