The Technical University – Sofia hosted the "Women in Science" program

On the eve of March 8, the program "For Women in Science" was presented at the Technical University – Sofia, along with an exhibition dedicated to the winners over the years and their projects. 

Dr. Eng. Dimitriya Mihaylova from the Faculty of Telecommunications at the Technical University – Sofia is among the laureates for 2024. She won the award with her project "Approaches to cybersecurity against attacks integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning in next-generation wireless systems".

"For Women in Science" by L'Oréal and UNESCO in Bulgaria is an initiative that encourages women's participation in science, stimulates young scientific talents, and supports the development of education and scientific research in the country. Over 16 years, 42 female scientists have been honored with a total prize fund of 210,000 euros. By the end of 2026, three more Bulgarian researchers will be honored for their projects.

Female scientists from across the country can apply for these prestigious awards, which give them the opportunity to realize their bold projects. Starting this year, each of the three annual scientific awards will be worth 7,000 euros. In addition to the financial incentive, the awards provide young scientific talents in Bulgaria with visibility, recognition, and confidence to continue their professional development in the academic environment.

The program stimulates scientific research activities in the country, encourages collaboration between universities, research institutes, and business, and inspires more girls and young women to choose a career in science.

Globally, the program aims to increase women's participation in the scientific community, where today they represent only 33% of scientists worldwide, and only 3% of Nobel Prizes in science have been awarded to women. Since its inception, the initiative has supported over 4,700 female scientists in more than 110 countries, seven of whom subsequently won the Nobel Prize in science.
