
Today, on 28.06.2021, in study block 9 of the Technical University – Sofia, lecture hall 9205 was named after Prof. Dr. Eng. Kamen Vladimirov Veselinov, Rector of the Technical University – Sofia during the period 2005 – 2011.
"It is an honor for me to name this lecture hall after Prof. Dr. Eng. Kamen Vladimirov Veselinov, a distinguished Bulgarian scientist, who graduated from the Technical University in Dresden in 1969 with a degree in applied mechanics. He defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic 'Loading of thick-walled spheres, thin disks, and thick-walled pipes at high temperatures.' He then began his career as an assistant at TU – Dresden. He joined VMIE in 1969. It is our duty to honor distinguished Bulgarian scientists who have dedicated their lives to engineering sciences. The modern world is dynamic; it is important to have memory and to give future generations the confidence that Bulgarian engineering science has contributed greatly to global technical thought."
Speeches were made by Prof. Dr. Eng. Mikhail Todorov, Dean of the Faculty of Transport; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Aleksandar Tsenov, Dean of the Faculty for German Engineering Education and Industrial Management; Prof. Dr. Eng. Nikola Andreev; Prof. Dr. Velya Borisova, Chairman of the Patent Office; and the mother of Prof. Veselinov.
The main areas of scientific research and teaching activity of Prof. Dr. Eng. Kamen Veselinov are: fatigue of materials and structures, numerical methods in mechanics, structural mechanics, lightweight structures, strength of materials, and technical mechanics.
Prof. Veselinov was the representative of Bulgaria in the EU Council for scientific research and technology. He received the Officer's Cross for Merit from the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Rector's leadership of TU – Sofia, colleagues, friends, and the family of Prof. Veselinov were present.
