The team at the Technical University of Sofia created the first student sports car, a "formula" type, which has already represented our country in several competitions in Europe.
"The idea is from two years ago. Our colleagues watched reports, clips, competitions, and decided to create a Formula Student team in Bulgaria, as the most suitable place for this is the Technical University," shared electronics engineer Ivan Kulin with Bulgaria ON AIR.
The boys started recruiting sponsors after designing the main components of the car. Over time, the car became a reality.
The team managed to build the car in less than a year. Starting the engine, which is from a motorcycle, turned out to be one of the biggest challenges for the team. The car has been tested up to 160 km/h and is valued at over 35,000 euros, with the boys receiving support from more than 40 companies that provide them with parts for the vehicle.
Vladislav Ivanov also plays a key role in the construction of the car, guiding the boys in building it. The first formula car will participate in regional competitions, and next year the team will start building a new car.
"Countless improvements are ahead. We need to make the formula car much lighter, as it currently weighs over 280 kg. Competing formula cars are nearly 100 kilograms lighter than ours," Ivan added.
