The National Internship Initiative "Staying in Bulgaria" by the Council of Women in Business is a large-scale internship initiative in Bulgaria, aimed at supporting young people to realize their potential in Bulgaria and seek professional opportunities in the country. Bulgarian and international companies, members of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria, have united to create a favorable environment for the career development of active and talented young people in Bulgaria. For the second consecutive year, the patron of the initiative is Ms. Eva Paunova, Member of the European Parliament. This year, the project was also supported by Ms. Maria Gabriel, Member of the European Parliament, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group in the European Parliament for Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa issues, and head of the Bulgarian delegation in the EPP Group.
The campaign started in 2015 with the essay competition "The Internship – First Step in My Career" and marked the beginning of a series of initiatives by the Council aimed at young talents in Bulgaria. In 2016, the "Innovators of the Future – Interns 2016" competition was launched, in which students and high school seniors presented their innovative ideas and concepts for solutions to improve the future and quality of life in the country.
Over 70 projects were presented within the competition (many of them by students of TU-Sofia) in the following areas: Technology and Innovation; Infrastructure and Environment; and Social Innovation and Human Resources. After a fierce competition and lengthy discussions by the jury consisting of representatives of member companies and the Management Board of the Council of Women in Business, the best and most innovative projects were awarded.
