
IX BULGARIAN INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION (BIA) AWARDS „IN-5”
„Icarus” statuette and entry in the BIA Book of Honor for the team of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
For contribution to the development of the Bulgarian economy in 2017, the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) awarded the scientific-applied laboratory „Coordination and Measurements in Mechanical Engineering” of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, headed by Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Dyakov, and „Mikro Plus-Apostolov” EOOD, managed by Evstati Apostolov, with the highest award – the „Icarus” statuette and entry in the Book of Honor. The two teams received high public recognition in the „INITIATIVE” category for designing, metrological guaranteeing, and constructing the mechanical structures of the waveguides and cryomodules of the most powerful linear accelerator XFEL in the EU, operating at the DESY research center in Hamburg.
The name of the awards, established in 2005, reflects the five pillars of economic prosperity – INdustry, INvestments, INnovations, INitiative, INtellect. The grand prize – the „Icarus” statuette – was crafted by the renowned Bulgarian sculptor Prof. Velislav Minekov, and the recipients of the grand prize are entered in the BIA Book of Honor.
This year's edition of the competition was dedicated to the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and was held as a parallel event to the Council of Presidents of BusinessEurope (May 17-18).
