The Center of Excellence in Mechatronics and Clean Technologies – a serious opportunity for boosting science-based innovations in Bulgaria
The project BG05M2OP001-1.001-0008-C01 "National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies" under the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Intelligent Growth", procedure BG05M2OP001-1.001 "Establishment and Development of Centers of Excellence" started on 28.02.2018. Its total value is 69,184,529.81 BGN, of which 58,806,850.34 BGN is European funding and 10,377,679.47 BGN is national co-financing, with a duration of 70 months.
The project involves 17 scientific organizations, including 5 higher education institutions and 12 institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The lead organization is the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry, and its director, Prof. Plamen Stefanov, serves as the coordinator.
The main objective of the project is the establishment of a modern national Center that will ensure a qualitatively new level of knowledge in several mutually overlapping fields: mechanics, robotics, energy efficiency, sustainable use of raw materials and resources, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The implementation of the project will contribute to the realization of the program for sustainable and intelligent economic growth of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Expected results include the creation of a new type of National Center of Excellence in Mechatronics and Clean Technologies, leading in the country and the region, with international visibility and scientific significance; finding innovative technological solutions to support the Bulgarian industry; training highly qualified specialists; creating new jobs; and stimulating young and leading scientists to work in Bulgaria.
