The Rector of the Technical University – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Kralov, received a delegation from the Embassy of Iraq

On 31.07.2024, Dr. Haider Haki Alburiahi, Deputy Head of the Iraqi Embassy in Bulgaria, and Mr. Mohamed Tahsin, Second Secretary for Cultural Affairs, visited the Technical University – Sofia. On the Bulgarian side, in addition to the Rector, the meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Eng. Lidia Galbova, Deputy Rector for International Activities and Integration, Prof. Dr. Georgi Venkov, Deputy Rector for Academic Activities, Accreditation and Academic Staff, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Agata Manolova, Director of the Directorate "International Activities and Integration and Public Relations".  

The meeting discussed opportunities for developing cooperation between the Technical University – Sofia and Iraqi universities, including the sending of Iraqi students and doctoral candidates for studies at TU – Sofia, exchange of teachers, participation of Iraqi scientists in scientific forums organized by TU – Sofia, joint research and development, etc.

Prof. Králov presented the Technical University – Sofia, highlighting that it is the oldest and leading technical university in Bulgaria and the region, where students are currently studying and scientific research is being conducted not only in classical technical fields, but primarily in modern scientific and technological areas such as artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, cybersecurity, data analysis, aviation and space technologies, green energy, mechatronics, robotics, etc.

The Technical University – Sofia stands out with its 3 foreign-language faculties – English, German, and French; other faculties also offer a number of programs in English, which opens up wide opportunities for training foreign students, including from Iraq. The Technical University – Sofia has a strong international presence based on over 300 agreements with universities and research institutes abroad. Moreover, TU – Sofia is part of the European Technological University, which unites nine universities from different parts of Europe and will become a confederation with a single European diploma by 2030.

In conclusion, both sides expressed readiness to develop fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation.
