
On November 7, 2024, a new educational and research laboratory dedicated to renewable energy sources was opened at the Technical University - Sofia. The project is implemented with the financial and expert support of "Kontraks" AD and aims to create future specialists in the field. The laboratory is primarily focused on high technologies. In the last two weeks, this is the third laboratory to be opened at the university. It was built after a major renovation of one of the classrooms and is equipped with modern technologies and equipment intended for conducting research and practical training in the field of renewable energy sources. The newly established educational base will be available to students studying "Smart Grids and Renewable Energy Systems", as well as to students from other specialties at the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies of TU - Sofia.



At the official ceremony, the Rector of TU - Sofia, Prof. Králov, noted that the interaction between industry and the university yields its successes and added that more than 160,000 engineers have graduated from the university and today they form the backbone of the Bulgarian industry, providing high added value to the technological solutions of modern times, such as green technologies, renewable energy sources and systems, and the rapidly developing challenges in the IT business. According to Prof. Králov, the new laboratories give students the opportunity to work with the most modern equipment and curricula, as well as to familiarize themselves with their future work already during their studies at the university. Finally, the Rector of the Technical University - Sofia stated that the students at the university are a worthy replacement and are leading Bulgaria onto the map of technologically developed countries.

The Chairman of the Board of "Kontraks" AD, Yordan Yordanov, thanked the management of the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies and noted with pleasure the lasting and beneficial ties between the company and the Technical University - Sofia. He confirmed the successful and long-term cooperation, which gives students the opportunity to find their calling, stay in Bulgaria, and support and develop the domestic business.

Among the teachers in the laboratory will be Antoan Angelov, assistant at the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies of the Technical University - Sofia. He has extensive experience in the field of smart grids and renewable energy sources. He has dedicated his professional career to preparing future engineers who will contribute to the sustainable development and modernization of the energy sector. He will teach the discipline "Smart Grids and Renewable Energy Systems".

Present at the opening were Prof. Dr. Eng. Georgi Todorov, Chairman of the General Assembly of TU - Sofia and Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technologies, Prof. Daniela Gotscheva, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies, Prof. Ognyan Nakov, teachers, staff, and students.
