
Today, on 27.07.2023, Prof. Dr. Ronald Tetzlaff, Chief Director "Technology Transfer and International Cooperation" at the Dresden University of Technology, visited the Technical University – Sofia.
The guest met with the Rector of the Technical University – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov, Prof. Dr. Eng. Stefan Stefanov, Chairman of the Commission on Intellectual Property of TU – Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Vasil Galabov, Dean of the Faculty of German Engineering Education and Industrial Management, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Agata Manolova, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Telecommunications and Director of the Directorate "Information and Public Relations".
Prof. Králov presented the Technical University – Sofia, its history, structure, and activities in the field of education and scientific research, emphasizing that the university participates in 5 Centers of Excellence and Competence Centers, the largest of which is the National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technology, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Prof. Králov noted that TU – Sofia operates three foreign-language faculties and is part of the European Technological University EUt+, which unites nine universities from different countries and will become a federal entity, thereby opening up opportunities for students to study at various campuses and receive a unified European diploma. Regarding academic activities and scientific research, he added that TU – Sofia emphasizes a close connection with business. Prof. Králov sees opportunities for deepening cooperation with TU Dresden in the creation of joint bachelor's and master's programs, with an emphasis on foreign-language education, as well as work on joint research projects with European funding.
Prof. Ronald Tetzlaff presented the Dresden University of Technology, highlighting that it is one of the eleven leading universities in Germany, receiving additional targeted funding for research activities from the government. TU Dresden is internationally oriented, both in terms of scientific research and due to the significant proportion of foreign students studying there. As possible areas for expanding cooperation, Prof. Tetzlaff pointed out the exchange of students and faculty, joint programs for training students and doctoral students, and scientific research.
The preparation and signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Technical University – Sofia and the Dresden University of Technology is upcoming.
Afterwards, the guest toured the laboratories at the National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technology, where he was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Eng. Georgi Todorov, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technologies and Chairman of the General Assembly of TU – Sofia, and was highly impressed by the modern equipment and ambitious goals of the research teams.
