Officer of the Order of Academic Palms. The award was established in 1808 by Napoleon for achievements in the field of education and culture. Officer – for individuals, professors, teachers; Officer – for administrative leaders, rectors, deans of large faculties; and Commander – for high-ranking officials and politicians. The proposal is made two years in advance and goes through a long approval procedure. At the end of each year, proposals submitted by various cultural and educational institutions are reviewed. The orders are presented at a special reception at the French Embassy by the Ambassador, in the presence of the rectors of universities with Francophone departments, recipients of previous years of the Order of Academic Palms, and guests of the award ceremony.
