In recent years, modern scientific infrastructure has been intensively developed in accordance with the National Development Plan "Bulgaria 2030", which will ensure the country's full participation in the European Research Area and achieve economic and social development. This infrastructure not only stimulates high-quality research activities but also contributes to retaining highly qualified personnel in the country, attracting young scientists, and stimulating international cooperation.
The first of the three campuses – the "Student City" Campus of the "National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies", built on the territory of TU – Sofia, is now a reality:

According to the National Development Program "Bulgaria 2030", the main goal of Bulgaria's scientific infrastructure is to stimulate and accelerate the process of developing and implementing innovations in various sectors of the economy, with educational institutions, research centers, industry, and the links between them playing a key role.
Part of the implementation of this program is the creation of Centers of Excellence (CoE) and Competence Centers (CC). Technical University – Sofia is part of three newly established Centers of Excellence and two Competence Centers. Their main task is to contribute to promoting applied research and development, their implementation in industrial production, and especially their commercialization and transformation into market products with high added value.
- CoE "Mechatronics and Clean Technologies"
- CoE "Universities for Science, Informatics and Technologies in the e-Society (UNITE)"
- CoE "Heritage BG"
- Competence Center for "Intelligent Mechatronic, Eco- and Energy-Efficient Systems and Technologies". (Plovdiv)
- Center of Competence “MIRACle – Mechatronics, Innovation, Robotics, Automation, Clean Technologies”
The activities of the Centers of Excellence and the Centers of Competence will contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy, as well as to the establishment of scientific infrastructure and capacity to address significant social and economic challenges.
