BAIT Awards for 2017

A student from TU "Electronic Systems" affiliated with TU won the BAIT Youth Award

For "contribution to the development of information and communication technologies", Ilia Kordov, a 12th-grade student from the Technological University "Electronic Systems" affiliated with the Technical University - Sofia, won in the "BAIT Youth Award" category in the seventh "BAIT Awards, 2017" competition. The project with which Ilia secured the prestigious award among 14 contenders is "TRUSTY – a system for detecting vulnerabilities in the security of devices based on the Linux operating system, using process identifiers as input data for a multilayer neural network". The system recognizes denial-of-service attacks.

The award ceremony for the winners took place (27.02.2018) under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, and under the auspices of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Upon receiving the award, the twelfth-grader expressed special thanks to his scientific supervisor, Senior Assistant Dr. Dimitar Nikolov from TU – Sofia and a lecturer at TUES, and to the school director, Associate Professor Dr. Eng. Stela Stefanova, and emphasized: "My achievement is a combination of many factors, but one of them is the unique atmosphere and relationships at TUES."

Ilia shared with the media: "The idea for 'TRUSTY' came when I attended a seminar on information security and learned that half of the world's corporations become victims of hacker attacks, despite having firewalls installed, and their losses amount to hundreds of billions of dollars. The projected costs for combating cybercrime on a global scale by 2023 will exceed one trillion dollars, and the scale of attacks will exceed six billion people. I created TRUSTY so that I could contribute to improving information security."

After graduating from school, Ilia plans to create a company that will take on the full implementation of the product and its market offering.
