European Commissioner Maria Gabriel to the laureates of the "Eureka" Foundation:
You are an inspiration and an example
For the twenty-eighth year, the "Eureka" Foundation awarded scholarships (on 11.12.) to talented and outstanding students and university students. The scholarships, awarded through a competition, bear the names of distinguished Bulgarian scientists and public figures who have contributed to the development of Bulgarian and world science, technology, and engineering: John Atanasov, Academician Nikola Obreshkov, Academician Georgi Nadzhakov, Academician Metodi Popov, Academician Doncho Kostov, Academician Dimitar Mishev, Academician Angel Balevski, Kolyo Ficheto, and Academician Evgeni Mateev. For the fourth time, special "Huawei ICT" scholarships are being awarded, for which the Foundation received a donation from "Huawei Technologies Bulgaria" EOOD.
This year, our University is also among the top three in the country with 5 awards, out of a total of representatives from 18 universities.
For achievements in mastering engineering sciences in the field of electronics, automation, and electrical engineering, Stefan Gramatikov, FA, received the award in the name of Academician Dimitar Mishev, and for achievements in mastering engineering sciences in the field of mechanical engineering technologies, Alexander Stoychev, FaG IOPM, was awarded in the name of Academician Angel Balevski.
Three winners received the Huawei ICT scholarships: Dimitar Iliev, FETT, Maria Peeva, FETT, and Nikolay Nikolov, FA.
At the ceremonial event at the National Polytechnic Museum, the winners received their certificates from the European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society, Maria Gabriel, who with satisfaction and pride emphasized that we have so many capable students in the field of science and technology who will help our country develop successfully in the field of digitalization, and wished them to be leaders, because society needs them. She also noted the contribution of the "Eureka" Foundation and the perseverance with which they maintain this wonderful tradition.
For talent to grow, it requires much care and attention, addressed the Rector of TUS, Prof. Georgi Mihov, a special guest at the ceremony. Talented students must be "raised" and cared for, not just discovered. This is also the task of the teachers at our University.
In 2017, the foundation maintained its broad range of activities, including two joint projects: with the Faculty of Machine-Technological Engineering for students and schoolchildren "My 3D World" and with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for organizing and conducting the Youth Scientific Conference "Machines, Innovations, Technologies 2017".
