The Minister of Education and Science, Krassimir Valkov, visited the Technical University of Sofia and met with the rectorate leadership and the deans of the higher education institution.
With the Rector, Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Sc., Eng. Georgi Mihov, they discussed the development of the university, as well as the need for engineers in Bulgaria.
The Rector acquainted the Minister with the faculties and specialties and stated that TU-Sofia is a modern, prestigious, and highly promising institution for Bulgarian and
foreign students, and stated: "We maintain a very close relationship with business, both in opening new specialties and in introducing individual disciplines into the curricula themselves."
Minister Valkov pointed out: "The idea behind the creation of national programs for higher education is for you to implement policies, to build university networks – Balkan and European. We are restructuring student admissions with an emphasis on engineering-technical and pedagogical specialties in professional fields that are linked to the labor market. There is a shortage of personnel in all professions, systems, and sectors, and especially of engineers. We must also work to intensify scientific research, and this should be your internal policy, by encouraging especially young teachers." Minister Valkov emphasized that here at the Technical University of Sofia, three foreign-language faculties are successfully operating, which is proof that the university is moving along the right path of development.
