The area around Plovdiv University "St. Paisius Hilendarski" and Technical University – Plovdiv will be fully renovated. Today, Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov and the heads of the two higher education institutions, Prof. Rumen Mladenov and Assoc. Prof. Nikola Shakev, gave a symbolic start to the construction and repair works.
The reconstruction covers the areas around the two universities, as well as Tsanko Dyustabanov Street from Avksentiy Veleshki Street to Tsar Asen I Street.
"We will renovate the spaces around the higher education institutions, pedestrian zones, sidewalks, and road surfaces. From the middle of the year, if funding is secured, we will start the repair of Ivan Vazov Street, which will become pedestrian up to the intersection with the Ivan Vazov Library," stated Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov. He recalled that the project for Ivan Vazov Street has been included for funding by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works under the capital program of the municipalities.
Work is currently underway on the square in front of Plovdiv University and on Tsanko Dyustabanov Street, after which construction activities will begin on G. M. Dimitrov Street. All adjacent sidewalks and pedestrian zones, as well as the technical infrastructure associated with them, will also be renovated. Asphalt paving is planned for sections that will handle traffic when activities on Ivan Vazov Street begin.
After completing this stage, the Municipality of Plovdiv plans to renovate pedestrian spaces along Tsar Boris III Unifier Boulevard – from Hristo Botev Boulevard to Gladstone Street.
The repair of Tsanko Dyustabanov Street in the section from Avksentiy Veleshki Street to Yug Bus Station will be carried out at a later stage, as the street is a boundary for the Tobacco City, for which there is a renovation project, clarified Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov. He added that the municipality is in contact with private owners for its implementation.
The contractor for the construction works is Dragiev & Co. EOOD, and the deadline for renovating the area is 150 days. The project is part of a public tender for current repairs valued at 6 million leva for the six districts of Plovdiv. Under the same tender, reconstructions have already been carried out in the "Yuzhen" district, and next week, the construction of a new bike path in the "Trakiya" district and the renovation of a pedestrian path in Lauta Park are scheduled.
