The Technical University (TU) in Sofia is the largest and most prestigious engineering higher education institution not only in the country but also in the region. This was stated by the rector, Prof. Dr. Georgi Venkov, at the solemn ceremony today, during which the higher education institution awarded prizes to media outlets, journalists, and journalistic teams for their significant contribution to promoting the activities of the Technical University in Sofia. What is unique about TU is that, according to the Higher Education Act, it includes two professional high schools: one is the Technological College "Electronic Systems" (TCES), known for its high quality and reputation, and the other is the Professional High School of Computer Technologies and Systems in Pravets, Prof. Venkov said.
We are currently educating 11,000 students and are members of the European Technological University, which is an alliance of nine European universities. They strive to preserve Europe's name in competition with Asian and American universities. TU in Sofia is also a research university, and we have developments that are covered by the media, the rector said.
The Technical University celebrated its 80th anniversary this year, and approximately 170,000 engineering elites have passed through TU. We set the standard for quality in engineering education, Prof. Georgi Venkov stated. There is extremely high interest in the majors of the Technical University, and all majors are full of students. Scientific activity is also at a high level, and our international activities are very strong, the rector said. He added that students enjoy new laboratories and renovated dormitories.
