Seven Plovdiv industrial companies made a special pre-Christmas gift to the students of the Technical University – Plovdiv Branch. They created for them a large leisure, sports, and informal meeting area in the basement of the higher education institution. The initiative for this area was born "over a cup of coffee," but for the name itself, we decided to ask artificial intelligence, explains Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Hristian Panayotov – Deputy Director of the Technical University – Plovdiv Branch. After a brief reflection, the smart machine suggested that the name should be a combination of two words – labyrinth and laboratory – MazeLab. However, it turns out that human intelligence can come up with an even better name. The suggestion was made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevil Ahmed-Sheeva, and the new student area is now called @mazeLab – impressive laboratory. Assoc. Prof. Hristian Panayotov recalls the work so far: "The idea was supplemented by Maina Town to create different areas – some for leisure, but also work areas where students can work, and a separate sports section with two table tennis tables and other sports equipment. Seven Plovdiv companies supported our initiative. Each of them designed one leisure area, where through modern technical means students can get access to information about internship and job opportunities in the respective company. On a general information screen, information about upcoming events at the university and news from Plovdiv companies will be displayed. All the furniture of @mazeLab is a donation from the partner companies of the Technical University – Plovdiv Branch. In a sense, @mazeLab is also the small representative territory of the industrial companies within the university."
Students of the Technical University – Plovdiv Branch also participated in the initiative with volunteer work. Mario Dechev – Vice Chairman of the Student Council at the Technical University – Plovdiv Branch shared: "We needed such a place, and it was completely natural to help in its creation. Now we feel it as our own and will preserve it so that it can be used by generations of students."
= Who Donated What =
Zdravko Ivanov – Sales Manager at "Dizma" company: "Our donation of furniture for @mazeLab coincided with our company's birthday, and this makes our contribution an emotional act as well. We helped with the development project of this place by focusing on the durability and functionality of the furniture. We liked that young people will recover here after exams and create social contacts with each other."
Veselina Baltova – Head of the "PR and Social Responsibility" Department at KCM 2000 Holding: "We embraced the idea of creating @mazeLab because to develop the industry and make it sustainable, we must start with education, including this new environment that we are opening today for students of the Technical University – Plovdiv Branch. We believe that this will help their engineering thinking and their teamwork."
Vesela Kuzova from the Human Resources department of ABB – Bulgaria: "For years, we have been partnering with the Technical University – Plovdiv branch, and from the very beginning, we were aware of the idea that we are now implementing together. We have established our own corner, which serves as a zone for student investments in learning, new acquaintances, and relaxation. We will use this corner for informal meetings between our specialists, including engineers who graduated from here, with the new generation of students."
