Drone football, a digital measuring wheel, a plastic bottle recycling installation, and a Rubik's cube sorting system bring their creators the first four awards at the IX National Exhibition-Competition 'Youth Technical Creativity' in Gorna Oryahovitsa.
This year, the event, which is part of the Ministry of Education and Science's National Calendar for extracurricular activities for children and students, features 180 participants from nearly 50 creative teams presenting their projects and talents on the eve of the Day of National Enlighteners.
Participants include students from secondary and professional technical schools, universities, independent clubs, and individual participants from across the country. The forum is organized by the 'Milen Grigorov' Foundation and the Municipality of Gorna Oryahovitsa with the active participation of the local Youth Parliament.
The two-day exhibition was opened by Tanya Mihaylova, Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Education and Science, who congratulated the participants on their creativity, hard work, and inspiration. She recalled that during a time when technical education seemed neglected, the founder and driving force of the forum for young technical innovators, Eng. Vladimir Grigorov, and his like-minded colleagues managed to show that students developing in this field have a real connection with business, reports the Press Center of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Tanya Mihaylova also welcomed the fact that representatives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are present at the forum, which is an excellent assessment of the exhibition's significance. Official guests at the event include Yulia Likomanova-Mutafchieva, Governor of Veliko Tarnovo; Nikolai Rashkov, Mayor of Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality; Zdravka Mincheva, Head of the Regional Inspectorate of Education – Veliko Tarnovo; and Prof. Dr. Kremena Dedelyanova, Chairperson of the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria.
Among the first prize winners is the team from the National Professional Gymnasium of Computer Technologies and Systems – Pravets, affiliated with the Technical University of Sofia. The team includes students from the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles club: Konstantin Naydenov, Yuri Treiman, Zdravko Anev, Vasilena Mikova, Galya Ivanova, and Kristian Petrov. They presented several intriguing projects, including the design and construction of a drone arena, a school hexacopter project, drone simulators, a delta robot, a 3D-printed hand controlled by a glove, a console game, an eco-station, and other innovative ideas. For their excellent performance, the team received a cash prize from the 'Milen Grigorov' Foundation and the Municipality of Gorna Oryahovitsa, as well as a voucher from 'Elimex' Ltd.
Among the winners are representatives of the National Professional Grammar School of Precision Engineering and Optics "M. V. Lomonosov" – Sofia, who participate with several projects, including an installation for recycling plastic bottles that are turned into material for 3D printing.
The presented digital measuring wheel earned the students from PG "Gen. Vladimir Zaimov" – Sopot the third first prize from the exhibition.
The system for mixing and arranging a "Rubik's" cube ranks among the winners the representatives of PGSGST "N. Y. Vaptsarov" – Chepelare.
Six of the participating teams were awarded second prize for their projects, and another 7 ideas brought third prize to their creators. Many encouragement awards and prizes were also presented to the teams from institutes, universities, and colleges. The awards were presented by Eng. Vladimir Grigorov, Deputy Mayor Petia Ivanova, and representatives of the jury.
According to members of the evaluation commission, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Tsvetelina Georgieva, many of the presented technological developments have potential for real practical application.
Part of this year's technical exhibition-competition also includes children from grades III to V, who demonstrate carts controlled by artificial intelligence. Eng. Vladimir Grigorov notes that this is indicative of the connection and path from the youngest children to universities.
