The Technical University (TU) in Sofia celebrated its 80th anniversary with a solemn concert-performance, which took place at the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov".
TUS is proud of its graduates - over 170,000 engineers and managers. Many of them are world-renowned scientists and statesmen, dedicated to science and prosperity, said Rector Prof. Dr. Georgi Venkov in his speech at the festive event.
He recalled that the Technical University of Sofia turned 80 years old a few days ago. On October 24, 1945, the Higher Technical College, established in 1942, became the State Polytechnic with two faculties by law. In 1965, the State Polytechnic was renamed the Higher Machine-Electrical Engineering Institute - HMEI, and in 1995, it was transformed into the Technical University of Sofia.
At the Technical University of Sofia, over 11,000 students are currently enrolled in various degree programs and specializations, including nearly 1,000 international students from around the world. Its structure includes 14 faculties in Sofia, three of which are in foreign languages - German, English, and French, two branch campuses in Plovdiv and Sliven, and two colleges. Also operating under TU-Sofia are two professional high schools - the Technological College "Electronic Systems" in Sofia and the National Professional High School of Computer Technologies and Systems in Pravets, said Prof. Georgi Venkov.
Among those present at the celebratory event were Vice President Iliana Yotova, the Chairman of the National Branch Trade Union "Higher Education and Science" under the CTS Prof. Liliya Vacheva, teachers, doctoral students, students, and employees of the Technical University of Sofia.
You are educating intelligent people, and the more students you have, the better it is for Bulgaria and its future, said Vice President Iliana Yotova in her speech at the festive concert-performance for the 80th anniversary of the Technical University - Sofia, which took place this evening at the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov".
One of the most prestigious higher education institutions in our country - the Technical University (TU) in Sofia, is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Thanks for the warm invitation, the rector Prof. Georgi Venkov recently shared part of the history, the chronicle of TU in Sofia - about what it is today in terms of internal affairs and on the international stage, noted Yotova.
According to her, today TU enjoys international recognition as well, because it is not only a place for teaching and training, but also a huge research center that works with its branches and with secondary education, and this is part of the success formula. Iliana Yotova explained what the success formula of the Technical University is - to have the latest technologies in your hands, to generously share them with colleagues and young people, to make your base one of the most modern and contemporary, and every teacher works on themselves, not standing still and wanting to be more and more modern and knowledgeable, and to give more and more of themselves. The Vice President noted that the Technical University is also part of the prestigious EUT+ university network.
The ceremonial concert continued with performances by Maria Ilieva, Nevena Tsoneva, Orlyan Goranov, "Fondatsiyata", and Vasil Naydenov.
